What it was
Divine Science was founded in the 1880s-90s by Malinda Cramer in San Francisco and the Brooks sisters — Nona Brooks and Fannie Brooks James — in Denver, who later unified their teaching.
Building on Emma Curtis Hopkins, it centres on the omnipresence of God and healing through the conscious realisation of that presence. Ministers such as Joseph Murphy and Emmet Fox carried it to large audiences.
Its place in the lineage
One of the founding New Thought denominations, and the church through which Joseph Murphy and Emmet Fox reached millions.
