What it was
The Sri Aurobindo Ashram took shape in Pondicherry in 1926 around the poet-philosopher Sri Aurobindo and Mirra Alfassa, known as The Mother, who organised and led it.
It practises Integral Yoga — the deliberate evolution of consciousness toward a divine life on earth — and later inspired the experimental township of Auroville.
Its place in the lineage
The institutional home of Integral Yoga, the most ambitious modern Eastern vision of conscious evolution.
