Tripura Rahasya
Anonymous (Shakta Vedanta)
Vedanta & AdvaitaTripura Rahasya is a revered text of the Shakta strand of Vedanta, devoted to the wisdom of the Goddess understood as the supreme consciousness underlying all appearance. Combining narrative and philosophical instruction, it expounds non-dual realisation through the figure of the Divine Mother as the ground and light of all that is.
Its teaching is that the world shines only by the light of awareness, that whatever is known is known because consciousness illumines it, and that this illumining awareness is itself the supreme reality. To recognise this, the text holds, is the whole of liberation; nothing further need be acquired once the mind sees that all appearance rests upon and within the one consciousness.
For a study of mind, the work joins a metaphysics of consciousness as ultimate ground with a devotional vision of that ground as the Goddess. By making awareness the condition of all experience and its recognition the sole aim, it places the knowing mind at the centre of both cosmology and salvation, and it has long been valued, particularly in southern India, as a guide to the direct realisation it describes.
