The Power of Now
Contemporary Nonduality / PresenceThe Power of Now is Eckhart Tolle's account of presence as the heart of spiritual life. Its central claim is that human suffering is generated by compulsive identification with the thinking mind and the accumulated emotional conditioning he calls the "pain-body," and that liberation is found by disidentifying from thought and resting in the conscious awareness of the present moment.
The teaching distils the Advaitic and Zen recognition that awareness, not the ego, is one's true nature, rendered in accessible, non-technical language. Practice centres on noticing the compulsive stream of thought, withdrawing identification from it, and surrendering to "what is" through non-resistance to the present.
The book became the principal mass-market transmitter of nondual presence into contemporary culture, carrying forward the "sacrament of the present moment" lineage of the Christian present-moment mystics. Its vocabulary of alignment and surrender was later absorbed by manifestation teaching and frequently turned into a technique for attracting outcomes, an inversion of its actual point, which is the cessation of grasping itself.

Inner body awareness is Eckhart Tolle's signature entry into present-moment consciousness — distinct from his "watch the thinker / gap" pointer.
The Gap Between Thoughts
"The gap between thoughts" is a simple, universal contemplative pointer rather than a long technique. The observation: thoughts arise and pass, and between one thought ending and the next beginning there is a tiny…
Say Yes to the Now — Eckhart Tolle's surrender to what is
"Say yes to the Now" is Eckhart Tolle's practice of surrender — which he defines not as defeat but as the inner cessation of resistance to what is.
