The Power of Awareness

by Neville Goddard

Manifestation Systems

The Power of Awareness sets out Goddard's mature Law of Assumption, the claim that one creates by assuming the feeling of the wish already fulfilled rather than by visualising an external object to be acquired. Consciousness is treated as the sole reality, and human imagination is identified with God.

The argument turns on states of consciousness: every condition — wealth, health, poverty — is a pre-existing state one occupies and can shift between, and the operative mechanism is emotional conviction rather than willpower or mental imagery alone. This collapses the older New Thought distinction between the operator and an external Universal Mind.

Within the manifestation tradition the work marks Goddard's decisive move toward a thoroughly imagination-centred metaphysics, locating all creative power in the individual's "I AM" awareness. Its language of occupying and changing states anticipates later "states" and reality-shifting vocabulary.

In its words

Imagination is the very gateway of reality.

Change your conception of yourself and you will automatically change the world in which you live.

The world is yourself pushed out.

Be what you wish to be; you have only to assume that you already are it.

You must assume the feeling of the wish fulfilled until your assumption has all the sensory vividness of reality. You must imagine that you are already experiencing what you desire.

The assumption of the wish fulfilled is the ship that carries you over the unknown seas to the fulfillment of your dream. The assumption is everything; realization is subconscious and effortless.

SATS — The State Akin To Sleep

SATS is Neville Goddard's signature technique for "impressing the subconscious mind." You enter the drowsy, relaxed, half-asleep state at the threshold of sleep (the hypnagogic state), and there you imagine a short…
