The Magical Revival

by Kenneth Grant

Ceremonial Magic (Typhonian / Thelemic)

The Magical Revival opens Grant's Typhonian Trilogies, surveying a lineage of magicians and currents that, in his reading, point toward a hidden "nightside" of esoteric tradition. Its central claim is that genuine magical power flows through suppressed and transgressive regions of consciousness, accessed by those willing to work the shadow-paths of the Tree of Life.

Grant builds his case through dense, allusive synthesis, weaving together Crowley's Thelema, Austin Osman Spare's sorcery, Tantric Vamachara, and the imaginative mythos of H.P. Lovecraft. He treats invented fiction as a real gateway to magical currents, mapping the Tunnels of Set and the qliphoth as territory rather than mere symbol.

Within the Typhonian and Thelemic stream the work is a defining statement, extending the consciousness-map into its repressed regions. Its treatment of fiction as operative source prefigures later chaos-magic and hyperstition.

In its words

Each such revival of magical power establishes a further link in the chain of humanity's evolution, which is but one phase only of the evolution of Consciousness.
