The EFT Manual

by Gary Craig

Energy Psychology

The EFT Manual sets out Gary Craig's Emotional Freedom Techniques, the form of "tapping" that became a global self-help phenomenon. Its central claim is that emotional distress is linked to disturbances in the body's energy system and can be relieved by stimulating acupressure points while attending to a troubling issue.

Craig's defining move was radical simplification of Roger Callahan's Thought Field Therapy: rather than different point-sequences for different problems, the user taps through one standard set of points while repeating a setup statement of self-acceptance, beginning "Even though I have this problem, I deeply and completely accept myself." This made the method learnable in minutes, removed the need for a trained diagnostician, and turned it into a free, mass-distributable tool.

The work carried meridian-tapping from a niche clinical technique into mainstream wellness and manifestation culture. Its energy-meridian rationale is disputed; whatever benefit users report is plausibly attributable to exposure and self-acceptance rather than to any subtle energy.

In its words

The cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body's energy system.
