The Book of Jubilees

Anonymous (Second Temple Judaism)

Kabbalah

The Book of Jubilees retells the narrative of Genesis and early Exodus as a revelation dictated to Moses on Sinai by an angel of the presence, dividing history into "jubilees" of forty-nine years.

It presents a cosmos governed by a fixed heavenly calendar and a moral order written into time itself, with angels, calendars, and law binding the visible world to an unseen pattern. Its concern is the alignment of human life with the celestial order established at creation.

Influential at Qumran and preserved in the Ethiopic tradition, Jubilees witnesses to the Second-Temple world of angelology and cosmic law from which both later Judaism and early Christian esotericism drew.
