Energy Psychology

by Fred P. Gallo

Energy Psychology

Energy Psychology gathers a disparate cluster of meridian-tapping and subtle-energy techniques under a single disciplinary name. Its central premise is that psychological problems are linked to disturbances in the body's energy system and can be treated by stimulating acupoints, meridians, chakras, or biofields.

Fred Gallo's contribution is consolidating: recognising that Thought Field Therapy, EFT, and various kinesiology-based methods shared a common rationale, he assembled them as the field of "energy psychology" and systematised its premises. His own integrative approach, Energy Diagnostic and Treatment Methods, sought to make point selection more individualised and diagnostic rather than fixed.

By naming the field, Gallo helped create a professional community, a literature, and an organisational centre of gravity, shaping how the wellbeing world classifies and markets tapping methods. The category's core energy claim remains empirically contested, even where the practical, self-regulatory dimension of the techniques is plausibly useful.
